Punk is not dead - Color SMAR SW

punk is not dead

Colorful SMAR SW

More than 15 years ago, the name SEX PISTOLS appeared in the headlines of all newspapers. However, no one at the time imagined that it would usher in a new era in the history of rock music.

The explosion in popularity of punk rock probably surpassed all the assumptions of music critics, who did not bode well for the screams and jazzy sounds heard on the album "Never Mind The Bollocks." And yet this album became one of the most important items in rock music, and the punk rock craze quickly swept over, millions of people around the world, not bypassing our country, of course.

"Punk is life itself, the power of rebellion, independence of thought, strength, individualism," says the band SMAR SW, currently one of the most colorful and popular groups playing this genre of music in Poland. They come from Rzeszow, a city whose atmosphere has already depressed several generations of musicians. Through their music, the youngsters try "(...) to break through the wall of indifference, to break out of the land of decadence." Fortunately, the nihilistic attitude of "No Future!" is alien to this generation ("Complete apathy is not the solution, escape into drugs will not give freedom"), which is beginning to care about "improving the world."

They exhort: "let's do something to start living, to stop vegetating".

While in the musical layer such Rzeszow bands as 1984, One Million Bulgarians and Wańka Wstańka only benefited from the experience of punk rock, SMAR SW does not actually go beyond the music. And it's a good thing, too, because the music played by the band gains in expressive power this way. Not all bands explore new musical genres. SMAR SW is one of the groups that move within the realm of punk rock, pulling out all the best of this style.

About the band began to be louder in connection with the events in Jarocin, where some observers pointed to them as the main reason for all the riots that took place there, and as a result the label "those who wrecked Jarocin" was attached to the band. The reaction of the audience and the "warm reception" at the festival indicates that, thanks to three cassettes released by the semi-subterranean FALA label, the band was already surrounded by a certain legend. About Jarocin, the band comments as follows: "each successive Jarocin was said to be more and more commercialized and sold out. What happened this year, however, exceeded all expectations. The introduction of Western sponsors combined with the promotion of musical popelina caused distaste among the audience. The artistic management was tempted to drive non-commercial music out of the festival, which until now had been the meaning of its existence."

The great publicity gained from the Jarocin events helped the band find a record company that invested in the band. the material "Let's fight for our rights" appeared in stores in mid-October, arousing great interest among listeners and music journalists. punk is not dead, as some would probably like, and what's more, it is still doing very well, as evidenced by the example of the SMAR SW band.
